Before renting, we recommend checking with your city to see if you will need a permit to rent a dumpster. In addition, checking with your city to see if there are any weight limits or prohibited items are important as well. After you have everything straight with your city, finding a place to put those rentals is the next step. We recommend putting it in your driveway, but if that isn’t an option for you then any flat and paved surface will work.
We always suggest putting down plywood to protect your surface! As a roll-off dumpster company, we cannot be held responsible for damaged driveways, sidewalks, landscape, etc. Remember, we are placing a several-thousand pound piece of metal on the ground so it’s possible that damage will occur. Please plan accordingly, by either putting down plywood (which will go underneath the four wheels of the roll-off dumpster), or put it in a location where potential damage is okay.
Next, filling your dumpster can be tricky. If not done properly, you can find yourself with large, empty pockets in your roll off dumpster. This wastes space and prevents you from getting your money’s worth. The best way to fill your rental is to first start with the heavier and bulkier items. This makes room for more trash, and anchors the can down. Filling the rental from one end to the other compacts your waste together and ensures you’ve gotten the most bang for your buck.
