Alpha Dumpsters Roll Off Dumpster Permit Information
When Will I Need a Permit for a Rental Dumpster?
A permit for a rental dumpster will generally only be required if you need to place a roll off waste bin directly on a city street, public sidewalk or any kind of public property. This kind of permit is often referred to as a right-of-way or street permit and is issued by the public works department or building department.
For a rental dumpster that will be placed in a home driveway or a similar privately owned space, you will not need to attain a street permit. If your neighborhood has an HOA, you will need to determine if you need permission before placing the roll off dumpster on a residential street.
How to Acquire a Roll Off Dumpster Permit
The process to obtain a permit for a roll off dumpster will vary from city to city. In some locations, the responsibility for getting the permit is on the dumpster provider, in which case you will not have to get the permit on your own. In other cities, the rental customer is responsible for acquiring a permit.
To determine if your city requires a permit for placement of a dumpster, who is responsible for permitting and how to apply for the permit, follow each step below or call us and we will help you figure it out.
Step One: Check to See if Your Town Requires a Permit to Rent a Dumpster
Call our Alpha Dumpsters team at 866-837-5820 and a service professional will tell you if you need a rental permit for the dumpster and if we can pull the permit for you before you set up a dumpster order.
Step Two: Call Your HOA and Public Works Department
If it is your responsibility to obtain a street permit, call your town’s building or public works department. They will be able to provide you with the right form to complete. Depending on the location, this process can be done at the office, on the phone or online.
Time required for processing can vary from city to city. For this reason, we suggest applying for a dumpster rental permit at least seven days before you need the roll off container. While most permit applications can be completed within twenty-four hours, it may take time to enforce parking and make room on the street for the bin.
For anyone living in a community with a homeowners association, it will be important to double-check the bylaws to verify you can keep your roll off container in your driveway or on the street.
Step Three: Schedule Your Roll Off Container Delivery
Once you have a dumpster permit, contact us and we will schedule your rental. In some areas, we may require a copy of the permit or the number from the permit to complete your roll off dumpster order. Our Alpha Dumpster representative will let you know this well in advance, so we can schedule your dumpster delivery as soon as possible.
